In our Back to Basics series we guide you through the best way of approaching everyday hair care. You may not have thought about some of these simple tasks in the past, so this series of videos will walk you through the basic but really important hair care stages now you are scalp cooling.
Keeping your hair as manageable as possible is really important when you are scalp cooling. Chemotherapy will inevitably dry your hair out, which can lead to your hair not only feeling pretty horrible, but also encourages knotting and tangling to occur.
One of the best ways to manage dryness can be to introduce natural pure oils to your hair care routine. You can use oils on the ends of your hair when appropriate or as a mask before washing.
This video will talk you through the best way to use oils as a conditioning method for your hair.
Hi,
Just finished my first chemo treatment using the cold cap. Went through the steps, wetting my scalp, putting the conditioner on and brushing my hair back. What is the next step with my hair being brushed back and conditioner still in it? Can I rinse out the conditioner or should I shampoo my hair? Thank you!
Hi Sheila, once you’ve finished your infusion you should be rinsing the conditioner out of your hair within 24 hours. You don’t have to wash it, as we recommend washing your hair less frequently than you did before chemo, no more than twice a week. However, if you want to wash your hair that’s your choice – find a routine that works well for you! Hope this helps.
Can I run 48 hours after chemo and wearing the cold cap. I’m concerned running will sweat out chemo thru my hair follicles negating the cold cap treatment.
Hi Rachel, you’re fine to exercise if your doctor says so. All we recommend is that you avoid tension at your roots, when tying your hair back. Hope this helps!
